Rare Plants is a small, UK company based in Wrexham, in North Wales.
We were founded originally by Paul Christian, at the time a University Botany student. The original business was a part-time enterprise until having completed further studies at University and a further research period for a Ph.D., the now Dr. Christian took on the running as a full-time business.
In 1985 the nursery moved from its original mountain home at Minera, above Wrexham, to a lower altitude on the alluvial plain between Chester and Wrexham, where it overlies deep sand beds, a site far more suited to bulb cultivation. Presently we run this, and two other sites, for bulb production. In addition we have a small network of trusted suppliers and contract growers.
Dr. Paul Christian is still the director and the company has now traded continuously over four decades.
Our aim is to supply new, rare and noteworthy plants that you will not find in your local garden centre. In particular we specialise in growing and supplying rare and unusual species bulbs. We have also specialised in for many years Trillium.
Although rare bulbs are our particular forte, we also grow other tubers, rhizomes, woodland perennials, tender bulbs and even a few alpine plants, for the collector. We can also source and supply specialist and documented research material for scientific institutions and research laboratories. (see our “commercial” menu heading)
We are exclusively a mail-order operation and from our office and nurseries in North Wales we are able to export our bulbs and plants to virtually the whole world.
Internet domains which we own will direct to our main site at rareplants.co.uk. We also own the non-trading company, Rareplants Ltd. We have no connections with any other companies using the name “rareplants” in the UK or in any other countries and we do not sell our plants at all on eBay. Anyone doing so using our name or the name “rareplants” there has NO connection with ourselves.
