Ambrosina
A genus of Aroids from the western Mediterranean, consisting of just one species, A. bassii. It is allied to Arisarum and like that genus it grows from small, slightly creeping tubers. The floral structure of Ambrosina is unique in that the inflorescence is divided into two chambers, one is directly open to the outside. It is into this that the pollinating insect gains access, meeting initially with the female parts of the flower where pollen from another flower is deposited, then heading towards the light filtering in through thin, white walls the pollinator gains access to the lower or second chamber which holds the pollen-bearing anthers. These are the male part of the plant and pollen is then deposited on the insect, bound for the next inflorescence visited.
