Anemonella

There is but a solitary species Anemonella thalictroides. It is a lovely, early- spring flowering plant from woodlands in the eastern USA where it is also known as the “Rue Anemone”. The normal wild type is white and single but there are now several, wonderful, named clonal selections which have been selected in the wild or raised in horticulture.

All grow from small clumps of tiny tubers, which look like a tiny cluster of miniature Dahlia roots. These are planted, in late Autumn after dormancy or in Spring before they establish too much top growth. Plant with the tops of the tiny cluster 1 cm below the soil surface.

They are easily grown in a well-drained, gritty soil which has a good humus content (or humus added), in light shade. They are suitable for garden growth where they like light woodland conditions or they do well in pot culture in the alpine house.

Available for ordering from both our Autumn and Spring lists, though the species range will vary between lists.
