Dactylorhiza

The “Marsh Orchids” are readily grown in a damp soil, in light shade, or in full sun as long as their roots do not dry out.

Mature plants will tolerate some standing water such as a fluctuating pond edge, but permanent or standing water can rot them. Some species are more tolerant than others, but none will tolerate constant immersion in standing or stagnant water.

Lime or acid soils are suitable in the garden, even though they may be limited to one type of soil in the wild. Dactylorhiza are best in the open ground, rarely doing as well in pots. In the garden most can be expected to propagate naturally.

Supplied as dormant divisions of cultivated garden stocks or artificially propagated, seed raised strains.

Available for ordering from both our Autumn (but LATE RIPENING) and Spring lists.
