Glaucidium
According to botanical whim Glaucidium has been included in the Glaucidiaceae, Ranunculaceae or the Paeoniaceae. This varies depending on whom you believe to be correct.
In the real world, this is a superb, deciduous, Japanese, woodland species with large silk-textured flowers in a shade of light blue-violet, with a boss of yellow stamens in the centre.
The flowers last fully three weeks in the cool of spring, but are also produced sporadically throughout the early summer so that you can enjoy this lovely species for longer than usual.
Light shade in a leafy soil, by reputation it is best in either lime-free or slightly acid soils, but we find no problems here at all. Keeping strong light off it, is however supposed to help the flowers retain their colour.
