Pteridophyllum
A monotypic genus (a genus which contains only one species) from Japan which is out on its own, there is just nothing else like it.
A very elegant woodlander which enjoys light shade and humidity. For cultivation, garden is best, though it will take a pot. Outside choose a shaded or half shaded spot in a well-drained but moisture retentive, rich and humus-rich soil. Acid soils are said to be best but it does not appear to make any difference at all.
It does not like to be too wet or too dry and it does appreciate humidity in the air when it is in full leaf. This is not difficult but it is not a plant to cut your teeth on, if you are just starting out. It is probably best to get a feel for other, cheaper, dwarf woodlanders first.
Available for ordering from both our Autumn and Spring lists.
