Description
(formerly Leucojum autumnale oporanthum dispathaceum)
Stern records a few occurrences of a form with two spathes around the flower stem (see our picture, where the two are clearly visible). Some of these twin-spathed references undoubtedly relate to what we now know as Acis ionica (which was in Stern’s time thought to be just an eastern form of autumnalis) however there are rare occurrences of true autumnalis with two spathes behind each flower. Our stock is propagated from one of these true forms which came to us with the collector’s number MS.1061, we presume that this is a Mike Salmon collection though we have no wild data.
Readily grown outside here in a well-drained loam, dry in summer.
