Description
(formerly placed in the genus Leucojum as Leucojum ionica but botanically this was wrong, it is an Acis. It was also wrongly identified as to species within both genera, it is not and never has been A. valentinum.
This is the geographical form of Acis ionica from the Albanian mainland.
This form is supposedly more attuned to damper, cooler conditions which may suit it in UK gardens. Whilst we can see the logic of this horticulturally, we cannot find any substantial or consistent botanical differences between this and the Greek Island forms either in leaf or in its appearance when the plant is in flower, though we have kept our stock separate.
Having said which, it’s still a very nice plant indeed for the autumn garden where it performs very well from late August into September.
