Description

(Adonis amurensis Fukujukai)

Although often seen under the amurensis name , strictly speaking this is not a form of amurensis at all, but a vigorous, sterile hybrid between two, recently recognised, species (ramosa x multiflora) which were once thought to be just variants of amurensis.

The flowers are glorious semi-doubled up-facing chalices of pure bright golden yellow, enough to cheer the heart and raise the spirits in spring and this is exactly the reason that they are popular in Japan and this is one of the most widely cultivated varieties.

Rich, moist but well-drained, acid soil with lots of humus in light shade suits them to perfection.
