Description
(Shu Hou)
Another Adonis form, often labelled as “amurensis of horticulture”. In fact this is reported to be a selected form of Adonis ramosa. This is a delightful orange with around 12 petals which are slightly cut and offset at the tips. The petals are marked with hairlines of slightly darker orange whilst at the base of the petals there is a very slight transition to yellow-orange. In the centre of the flowers are noticeable, contrasting, darker red-orange filaments holding bright golden-yellow anthers, arranged around a small, yellow-green central boss. A perfect combination of colourings.
They are all very early-flowering plants for a damp, humus-rich but well-drained, lightly-shaded spot. Adonis seem to resent transplanting even more than most other Ranunculaceae, a family notorious for their dislike of being moved. Please be patient with them (and with us) as this is down to evolution, not the nurseryman.
