Description
This newly named clone is one selected from seedlings of ‘Durban‘. Just one seedling was initially chosen not only for its abundant flowering habit but for its short stems. These traits combine to make a superb display in September. In time, the initial selection has grown so well that the height of the stems became more like that of ‘Durban‘ itself, so that vigour can also be added to its desirable features. A superb new cultivar for the warmer garden, in the UK at least, where it will thrive in a well-drained, fertile loam-based soil in full sun. Cold hardy under unheated glass here but not yet trusted outside with us!
The name is chosen of course for the place in South Africa, like its kin it is named for cities in S.A. In fact the name of the town translates to the very appropriate ‘fountain of flowers’!
As far as we are aware this name hasn’t been used before having been checked in old name checklists of the KAVB.
Named in 2023 and released for the first time, in our lists, in May 2023
