Description

Although often considered related to Anemone nemorosa this is a distinct species resembling nemorosa only in its white flower colour. It is more stocky and fat in overall appearance, with narrow, pale green foliage (sometimes bronze-tinged) and rhizomes which are fat and white (rather than slender and brown). The anthers in altaica are consistently white or cream.

There seems little information about this even being in cultivation currently. Ours is a lovely pure white clone without any bluish or pinkish suffusion outside as has sometimes been reported.

Growth is in a humus rich soil in light shade, easy but virtually unknown outside of its native Altai mountains, Central Asia.
