Description
A gorgeous little species, endemic to the Greek islands of Crete and Karpathos.
Comparatively large flowers of white, sometimes flushed with steely blue on the exterior. The flowers are sometimes stained towards the centre, with pale blue. Whatever the petal colouring, they sit around a central deep navy blue boss set off by navy blue anthers.
Well drained, fertile loam soil with a dryish summer rest, full sun is fine in northern climates – the shaded habitats in the wild are simply the most amenable places in a dry southerly climate.
Easy to grow and a delightful early spring plant only 10-12 cm tall, thus ideal in the alpine house. Very little seen however.
