Description

Collected as seed by Carla Theune of Leiden BG, at 3,600m in China many years ago. The seed was introduced at a time when China was just beginning to open up, botanically, to the West. Over the years, we have trumpeted the distinct nature of this plant, in the face of those who inexplicably dismissed it as some form of Arisaema consanguineum, which is totally incorrect.

Sense has been seen and it has now been described as Arisaema ciliatum liubaense, by Dr. G. Gusman of Brussels.

A superb plant with striking molasses-brown spathes, strongly striped with white, over a circular parasol of leaves.

Excellent outside in the garden in a half-shaded spot in a humus-rich soil well drained but moisture retentive also. Once established this will increase nicely by tuber-bearing stolons and seed and make a reliable display.
