Description
The leaves on this plant are each divided into ten or twelve leaflets, arranged on one side of the main leaf stems in a shape like an upright horseshoe furling around the central stem. The foliage effect is like one of the more exotic palms or a green coloured sun-bittern!
The spathes on this spectacular are greatly elongated, and pale blue-green in colour. They flare open at the mouth to reveal a bright green interior from which extends a long spadix whose appendage twists its way skywards, to add an even more exotic appearance.
Arisaema heterophyllum is esteemed in Japan for its appearance as well as its ease of culture, in a well-drained, open, humus rich soil in half shade. Vigorous and easy making a stately plant and this stock, propagated from Japanese nursery-raised plants is vastly better than those coming from China.
