Description
(previously offered as Arisaema ovale Variegatum)
This has the typical, five-part leaves of Arisaema ovale, which are made early in spring but unlike the usual form, the leaves, even from emergence are broadly marked and swept across with cream bands, freckles and stripes. The cream areas vary on each leaflet within the leaf, some are all yellow, some have hardly any. A remarkable plant and a very unusual Arisaema.
The spathe is greenish to caramel infused wrapped around a polished, warm brown spadix.
A rare form from Japanese horticulture, happy in the garden in a humus-rich soil in a habitat that is shaded once the plant is in leaf in summer. It is however early flowering and will take full sun in spring which seems to benefit the variegation for which it is grown. Hardy and cold tolerant.
