Description

Many years ago the Cretan endemic Arum creticum was found on mainland Turkey and introduced by the late A. Attilla, via Germany. We obtained plants and named a clone, before losing our stock! One of our customers kept it going however, and we are delighted to have it back at last.

Identical in size and shape to the Cretan plants but with spathes of a soft, creamy white – it isn’t an ice-white however and the flower colour does vary a little as it develops and ages. It also has a subtly different scent – and yes it IS a scent not an odour and curious, almost rose-scent though one I have seen described as smelling like a funeral parlour. The spadix retains a lovely, rich deep, cadmium-yellow colouration.

Easy in a loam based compost or a well-drained, sunny spot, but we do find it is slow to propagate, perhaps because we cherish it!
