Description
This new stock is raised from material originally found by Professor Speta in Cyprus. It was was originally offered as ‘var. cyprium‘ however P. Boyce has confirmed that this stock is in fact the variety syriacum. Online the name seems to be applied indiscriminately to plants which clearly belong to other variants of Arum dioscoridis and which are not Arum dioscoridis syriacum at all.
The spathes in this form are large and pale lime-green, lightly speckled and stippled in black and deep violet around their edges and especially towards the base.
The leaves are mostly plain in our stock, but can sometimes be lightly marked with white clouding in zones around the midrib.
Easy here growing well in our natural sandy loam, and given no special conditions, although a stock grown under unheated glass does well presumably as the stout foliage is wind-protected. Under these conditions, our largest spathes are massive, typically they are over 30cm and the largest measured in at 38cm from base to tip.
