Description
First discovered in 1990, but only recently described. It is known only from mountains in the border area between Turkey and Georgia. The name megobrebi derives from the Georgian for ‘friend’ and was chosen to signify the good relationships between the Botanic gardens of Tblissi, Munich and Bonn (whence our stock came).
It has a red-edged, pale cream spathe and a very long, thin and cylindrical purple spadix, very distinct from the short, club shaped one of maculatum, which shares similar colouring. In addition it has a solitary habit (not clump forming) and usually makes just two leaves.
Fully hardy and readily grown in light shade in a well-drained, humus-enriched soil.
