Description

Down at ground level are dull purple-brown monk’s cowls with a striking white interior, contrasted by a dark ring half way down, and a pink-brown star in the throat, like some exotic oriental porcelain bowl, in miniature.

The species is esteemed by enthusiasts in Japan, where it is known as the “Kiwi Flower”, the pattern being said to resemble a slice across a Kiwi fruit, but in black and white.

Easy in light shade, with humus and very decorative, the narrow rhizomes bear small deep green leaves, tightly packed on hairy petioles.
