Description
This makes superb, heart-shaped, evergreen, silver-patterned leaves (backed with purple) which are present along with the flowers in early spring.
The flowers are produced in good numbers and are of a good size, in this vigorous plant. The calyx lobes are rich purple-grey and the centre looks to me, to resemble an eye, with a black-purple pupil and a deep purple iris, which is surrounded and contrasted by a broken circle of raised, white dashes.
Readily grown in a well drained, humus rich soil or compost in half shade for perfection.
Flora of China considers this Taiwanese endemic to be a synonym of A. macranthum.
Introduced to our lists November 2017.
