Description
Deep green, virtually evergreen, leaves which are clouded and zoned with sage green in an irregular pattern.
The flowers are large and sit at ground level, facing upwards or sideways, spreading their petals over the soil surface. The petal texture is almost warty.
In the typical species the colouring as a deep olive-green with the mouth of the throat being picked out in plum purple, however the clonal form Ryokuen has been selected as it has lost its purple colouring and it thus has a totally green flower. The normally raised area around the mouth is also green (not purple-red) however the contrasting with flecks and knobbles are still there in a very pale shade of yellow-green. Deep in the throat, the plant is also green, so that the mouth appears less like some dark, menacing cavern!
