Description
A lovely and highly aromatic Asian species found in Vietnam and adjacent China. This has almost triangular bright to dark green polished leaves marked and clouded with a broken and diffuse zone of paler green-silver.
Below the foliage are borne good sized flowers of black and white BUT before you dismiss this as yet another panda-eyed Asarum, the colouring in this is the exact reverse of almost all of the other black and white species. A negative-image colouration, the centre and surrounding area is jet black whilst a third to a half of each petal is starkly contrasted white, surrounding the black.
