Description
Native to some of the coldest areas of Hakkari in Turkey, this species is relatively new to cultivation and it is still little seen. It has long spikes of indigo-tinged, cream flowers, bearing blue anthers, each spike topped by a tuft of unopened buds of bright indigo-blue. With increasing bulb age, larger and longer spikes are produced.
Very lovely and not difficult in a sunny, well-drained soil with a dry summer rest, seldom seen but this is simply because it is new and still rare.
This is raised from JJA.227.840 and this collection number IS B. kurdistanica. (the JJA.227.841 also from Hakkari in Turkey was introduced as kurdistanica, but it is in fact now identified as B. fominii).
