Description
Narrow, channelled, upright foliage, that is tough and leathery, rather than lush and soft.
In summer, side by side with the foliage is borne a very tall, slender, flower spike crammed with small flowers of bright lime-green and yellow. The yellow lip is cleft into three and faces upwards. The spur at the back of the flower also turns upwards, whilst the small, leafy bract at the junction of the ovary and stalk, bends down, giving a very criss-crossed effect which combined with the abundance of smallish flowers, crammed into the long spike, really does confuse the eye until you get close to.
Happy here in our standard Calanthe conditions. This is a veteran of our long, hard, 2011 winter, culminating in -17°C. It lost its leaves (it does anyway) but emerged (late) in spring with new growths and more flowers than ever before!
This commemorates Pere Jean Pierre Armand David, a Catholic Missionary to China.
NOT available for U.S.A., Norway, Switzerland, etc.
Calanthe are no longer shipped outside of the UK and EU.
