Description
(The Giant Himalayan Lily).
Large, fragrant, white trumpets, ruby red in the throat on 2-3 m stems.
They adore light shade, humidity and rich, leafy soils. Prepare your soil well in advance with plenty of humus, leaf mould, manure and bark to get the best from them. They are a long term project, not an instant gratification plant. If you want the best from them, they need work on your part!
After flowering, they die, leaving offsets which flower in 3-5 years. Planting in successive years or in different sizes ensures a cycle of flowering.
These plants are NOT flowering sized. They are 4 year old youngsters, grown individually in pots to allow them to make a good root system. They are de-potted and the compost is shaken off before despatch. The slightly oval bulbs, around 2.5cm in diameter are sent to you damp-packed, ready for immediate planting. The hard work has been done and these will soon make size and will flower with 2-3 years good cultivation.
Though we will also offer large (6-7 year) pot-grown bulbs of about flowering size, but these are not available until March and orders for both sizes cannot be combined.
