Description
A new species, described in 1998, by Chris Brickell, from collections made, in Turkey, by Peter Davis in 1955. The species is endemic to a small area of the Amanus Mountains in S. Turkey. This new stock was originally from Gothenburg Botanical Garden and it is their reference number 1985.0364. We have no further data than this at present.
We have kept this one separate from our other stock (the Peter Davis collection) as there are minor differences when the two are seen side by side. The Gothenburg bulbs grow to a larger size and do particularly well when left undug, going down deeply.
Compact clusters of quite large, yet short-stemmed, autumnal flowers are borne in September. These have broad overlapping petals with a ground colour of white, lightly chequered in pale pink-violet, this increases in intensity towards the petal tips, and with maturity of the flower.
Yellow anthers on slightly greenish filaments complete the picture.
This new stock introduced to our lists April 2025.
