Description

A magnificent, strong-growing form of this excellent species. The flowers, borne in long, dense spikes, are pure-white and are strongly scented of carnations. The buds have a tinge of primrose yellow before they open, but this fades as do the tiny pink lines, present around the lips of some of the flowers, this is all simply developmental.

This is a superb introduction which we made many years ago, from Greece and I think that it is one of the best new garden bulbs of recent years.

A well-drained, humus-rich soil in light shade is ideal.

The collection number refers to our 1987 collection from 1,450m on Mt. Vermion in N. Greece. The number (which I have seen used for pink plants) refers exclusively to white-flowered plants which were found at the time, no pink plants were selected.
