Description
Superb, elongated white flowers are held alternately in sturdy spikes. The mouth is picked out with a well-contrasted, deep purple, that really should be made out of velvet.
The spur of each bloom curves towards the mouth of the flower below, lending an elegant, sinuous effect to the plant.
This is perhaps the species that we get asked for most of all, hardly surprising, as it is not only the most striking species but is also amongst the largest flowered in the genus.
Easy, dependable and long lasting, it has a lot going for it. Ours is true stock, and not hybrid material sometimes seen under the name. PC 1979, AM 1983 (RHS).
