Description

(Crocus sieberi BowIes White)

The old subspecies of Crocus sieberi have now been revised and elevated to species rank, thus as well as C. sieberi (found only on the high mountains of Crete) we now have Crocus atticus, nivalis and sublimis.

You will see this mostly listed as a colour form of Crocus sieberi as it was raised at a time when the botanical distinctions between several closely related species were not appreciated. In fact it seems to be a white seedling of C. atticus, preserved as a clone since it was selected by E.A. Bowles many years ago.

Strong and robust pure white flowers with a yellow and orange throat. This is a glorious form and should be in every garden that grows Crocuses.

Free-flowering, readily grown and, after many years when it was a rarity, it is now becoming more widespread and is one of the very best white Crocus both for the garden and for the show bench.
