Description
(syn. iridiflorus)
This has intense soft violet flowers with fantastically frilled styles, the outer petals longer than the inners, lending an Iris-like appearance with is unique to Crocus banaticus. Quite broad, but short leaves follow the flowers. A superb plant which more people should grow.
Unlike the majority of Crocus species, this likes a leafy soil and light shade, in the garden, without needing to be lifted each season and with no dry, summer rest being necessary. However it is remarkably good in a pan in a humus-rich soil and without a summer bake.
