Description
A clonal selection raised from one bulb, in turn grown from open-pollinated seed of our 1982 collection (made in southern Evvia, Greece), in cultivation.
This is notable for normally being the first of the C. cartwrightianus cultivars to flower, as well as for its striking colouring of red and yellow, styles and stamens set against light violet petals.
Each flower has a central start of deeper, darker, violet throat, a colouring strongly reminiscent of Crocus mathewi and the possibility of it being such a hybrid crossed my mind as soon as I saw it in flower.
First introduced to our lists April 2021.
