Description

The pure unhybridised wild-type species with vivid orange-yellow flowers produced in quantity, in January and February. These have contrasting orange anthers.

This form from near Milea in the Katara pass, of the Pindus range of central Greece, has proven to be one of the best of our 1987 introductions. In the wild it grew at 1,450m in a shale scree which was overlying a serpentine. It has, in time, proven to be an excellent garden plant flowering well and making its perfectly poised and shaped flowers in abundance.
