Description

This rare and little known species naturally has small corms and a dwarf flower.

The flower is funnel-shaped and a delightful shade of violet-blue with a sharply contrasted deeper violet basal patch on the outside. Inside there is a bright chrome yellow throat. Despite its naturally diminutive stature this is a real, little, strong man!

Flowering is in January in our climate but it is as late as April and May in its native mountain haunts, which are all in the Troödos Mountains of Cyprus. These corms are raised from seed ex Jim Archibald originally from around Chionistra.

Sunny, loam based soil or compost with good drainage and plenty of water in spring. Despite its rarity this is a not difficult plant.
