Description
A lovely, brand-new clonal form of Crocus hadriaticus with soft violet buds. The colour partly derives from a violet stripe on the outside and at the base and tube of the flower at least, this shows through to the inside which opens to the palest, lavender-kid possible, with a deeper star of violet-purple in the throat. This colouration spreads up the petals slightly and provides a perfect contrast to the red style and yellow anthers.
Clonally propagated from the original selection, which was seed raised in horticulture in a large, mixed collection, thus the possibility of this being a hybrid cannot be discounted and if this is the case then C. mathewii would seem to be a reasonable candidate, though this is a supposition, not in any way a fact.
Introduced to our lists April 2017.
