Description
This is the little known and rarely seen form in which the flowers are an attractive shade of light violet rather than the typical white of the species, the centre of the flower is still of a contrasting yellow and the styles are a glorious red-orange. This flowers here over a long period, certainly a good month or more, under glass where you can apprecioate its gorgeous, light, floral scent which overlays the saffron scent. It will also grow happily in the garden, in a well-drained, sunny spot.
This is a very vigorous fertile and non-clonal stock which does well outside (it is fully hardy here) as well as in pans under frost-free glass and this is also a good producer of saffron.
