Description

(Crocus hadriaticus Maïwenn strictly speaking but we remove and diaeresis or  other accents to aid in our site search)

The flowers of Crocus hadriaticus Maiwenn are a uniform pale blue-violet with the throat colour being of the same shade and no darker area as is often the case in some seedlings and most hybrids amongst the sativus group. The anthers are small in size and in colour they are a very pale, primrose yellow or creamy-white. The styles are elongated, mostly unbranched and make a superb, brightly-coloured, red-orange contrast.

A new, clonal cultivar, selected and named by Antoine Hoog. It was found as just a single corm amongst a seed-raised stock of Crocus hadriaticus. Very attractive.

New to our lists (and to horticulture) January 2019.
