Description

This has white flowers with a lovely purple centre to the throat area. In this clone the anthers are yellow-orange. The possibility of hybrid origin cannot be ruled out, but cannot yet be verified either. It originated in a Dutch horticultural stock of Crocus niveus hence its early attribution to that species. It was selected from one of these stocks by Antoine Hoog. Its origins however seem to lie more with hadriaticus and cartwrightianus,  this presupposes that Greek species are the only possible parents which of course is not certain, as it has arisen in horticulture!

Whatever the origins this is a gorgeous new introduction, well suited to growth outside and promising to be a great new garden plant.

Do compare this to the superficially similar, but distinct, C. hadriaticus Purple Eye (which has very distinct and different small white anthers).
