Description
This is the first raising from plants of a new stock, seed-propagated from a Michael Neumann collection, his number I53.05 (Capital “I” not the number “1”)
Strong violet-purple flowers with a beautiful light but persistent fragrance of violets . This stock has bee raised from just 5 corms but has a much greater variability than this might imply. The bulk of the plants have variably yellow tubes, with the yellow extending down the tube for some way and overlaid with pin stripes of deep purple. This has not been been propagated vegetatively for many years, it is seed-raised here and the the stock is not diseased or virused, as has often turned out to be the case, with many mass-produced, horticultural stocks. (We do not offer these)
Does well outside, in an open, sunny site in a free-draining, loam soil and equally well under glass (in a loam-based compost) where the delightful scent can be appreciated in October.
