Description

Soft violet flowers with a blue-turquoise spot at the base of each of the petals, Inside there  is a golden yellow throat, yellow anthers and an orange style, split into three .

Externally the flowers can be unmarked and plain, or they can have indigo feathering spreading from a basal mark of the same colour.

Described by Kerndorff and Pasche in 2013 from an earlier find, HKEP-9914 (2005) a native of altitudes of around 1,000m on Maden Dag, in the Malatya province of Turkey.

Best grown in pots under alpine glass and kept cold during the winter to avoid making the flowers appear too early and become leggy and drawn. In the wild this flowers in March, without due care and attention in cultivation (in a well-drained, loam-based compost) it will flower in January.
