Description

(Crocus mimimus Late Form)

A wonderful little plant that originally came to us from a grower in Germany and which is traceable back before that as far as German grower Fred Feigel. It may also be encountered in cultivation as “‘very late form” which gives away its habit – this is the latest of the forms of Crocus minimus to flower, following on some two weeks after the excellently coloured Bavella strain which is anyway a late-flowering plant. With us however, Little Girl is a much better grower and being truly clonal, it gives an even flowering of identically coloured flowers.

The colouring of Little Girl is deep and intense but not totally visible in the main picture, is the very deep blue-purple tube which runs up into the base of the flower which is marked externally, at the base, with the same shade over a buff ground. Little Girl is clonal and as such is very true and even, it always displays a yellow style (unlike Bavella which usually, but not always, has white styles)

A fabulous plant, easy of growth but new and still scarce – in the UK at least. The flowers are miniature, strong, well held and sit on delightfully short tubes over incredibly narrow foliage, this is such a neat and tidy little plant and it makes a superb pot subject for growing under alpine glass and we can fit 25 corms easily into a 15cm pan with plenty of room for growth and offsetting still.
