Description

(formerly Crocus candidus Little Tiger)

Brian Mathew, in ‘The Crocus’, suggests that Crocus candidus subflavus of horticulture is a hybrid plant. Seedlings have now been raised from this and they do indeed come up in several colours and with wide variability perhaps reflecting a hybrid whichg is then displaying a tendency of the seedlings to favour one parent or the other, when second generation seedlings are raised.

Little Tiger, is one such seedling plant which has now been cloned up. It is bright orange-yellow with very strong, chestnut-brown feathering externally. It makes masses of flowers from each corm, these are significantly smaller than plain olivieri, however they are borne in far greater abundance, giving this a dwarf, clustered habit.
