Description
The flowers of Crocus oreocreticus Elouenne represent a nice, dark form of oreocreticus, perhaps (and presumed to be) a hybrid with C. cartwrightianus.
The clone has a uniform blue-violet ground which is then heavily overlaid with thing, but intense, pencilling of deep violet with the throat colour being of the same deep shade as the pencllings. The anthers are a nice, bright cadmium yellow whilst the styles provide a superb, brightly-coloured, contrast in vermilion-red.
A new, clonal cultivar, selected and named by Antoine Hoog in 2016 from one of his 1995 sowings of Crocus oreocreticus seed which had subsequently been grown on.
New to our lists (and to horticulture) January 2019.
