Description

The flowers of Crocus oreocreticus Louane present as a nice, improved form of cartwrightianus, though it arose as a seedling from stocks of C. oreocreticus. It is thus presumed to be a hybrid between the two, especially as several other clones from this parentage are known (and offered here).

The clone has a uniform blue-violet ground which is beuatifully marked in the tohroat with a barred star of deep violet which intensifies as you progress down into the depths of the throat. The anthers are a nice, bright cadmium yellow whilst the styles provide a superb, brightly-coloured, contrast in vermilion-red

Selected and named by Antoine Hoog in November 2015 from one of his 1995 sowings of Crocus oreocreticus which had subsequently been grown on.

New to our lists (and to horticulture) January 2019.
