Description
Disporopsis aspersa is sometimes seen labelled as other species and at the same time, other species such as pernyi are sometimes offered as aspersa (Flora of China maintains them as different species).
True aspersa has mottled, arching stems reaching some 40 cm tall with alternate, evergreen, glossy leaves. The lower leaves have cordate bases (rounded in pernyi). The upper leaf axils each bear hanging slightly-greenish yellow flowers (not white as in pernyi) in late spring, not dissimilar to the related Polygonatum, but they are marked with purple and green internally and spickled with purple externally. In this species they are scented of lemon blossom.
