Description
This is a true stock traceable to the raiser Mr. J.M.C. Hoog. Selected as a single plant from the progeny of a cross between Eranthis cilicica and Eranthis hyemalis (the wider cross is simply x tubergenii without the Guinea Gold added) this has the merits of both parents with the growability of a hybrid.
The largest of the Aconites with great big, golden-yellow glossy flowers over strongly bronze-tinged, divided leaf ruffs from Jan-Mar. It makes a superb clump if left alone to increase, without disturbance.
There are several impostors bearing this name in the trade. The name of ‘Guinea Gold‘ is unfortunately sometimes attached to plants which are simply the wider grex x tubergenii, but not this exact clone. We offer what is, beyond any doubt, the true CLONE, vegetatively propagated from our own stock with a perfect provenance. The true plant is seed-sterile, it makes pods, but they are empty, if yours does not do this, and makes seed, then it is not GG!
