Description
Long spikes of individually quite large white flowers spaced out along the 1.5m tall stem and held away from it on long pedicels giving an open airy appearance.
Each white flower (shaped like a little lampshade) has a central strip of bright green on each petal, with a yellow throat set around reddish anthers and a yellow style.
Very distinctive and rather lovely in a most atypical way. It is distributed around central Asia as far west as Afghanistan. Flowering is in June. Described in 1883 by Regel.
Happy in a sunny, well-drained, loam soil and hardy to -20°C at least!
