Description

In Montenegro, (in former Yugoslavia), the dog’s tooth violet has some populations that are entirely white flowered. We offer one such, traceable to populations from Mount Rumija. These are horticultural propagations from the original find, made by a Czech botanist many years ago.

A lovely plant with red stems which hold ice-white flowers early in the year. These have reddish-purple anthers (the colour depends on their maturity) all over attractively mottled and marbled foliage. With maturity the flower fades to very pale violet. The name Erythronium dens-canis montenegrinum may not have a strict botanical standing, the plant however is one of the moist distinct of the Erythronium dens-canis forms with as many small differences between itself and the other dens-canis forms, more than separates some of the American Erythronium species from each other in fact.
