Description
Superbly marked, sage green leaves with purple marbling and deep amethyst flowers, with darker shades around the mouth. This colouring is all contrasted by deep navy blue anthers. The sheer intensity of the colouring makes this plant stand out in the genus.
Humus-rich soil in light shade is best and this is not difficult once you can get your hands on good plants that have been properly grown and handled!
Some years ago we discontinued this as we were unable to obtain a stock, in good enough condition to enable us to establish it. However the plant has such an intensity of colour that we had to keep trying. Finally, we obtained a good, nursery-grown, Japanese nursery stock (not a Chinese import) that has been properly handled and is in the prime of condition – not moulded, as has been the case formerly. We now offer tubers from this stock and as these are normally dormant, under snow and in frozen ground, without roots, these sit happily (and safely) cool-stored in moist peat into late January and thus these can be offered late in Autumn and into our Winter listing.
