Description

Raised by W. P. van Eeden and introduced in 1984 by Michael Hoog, who named it in honour of his wife. We obtained our stock from Michael himself some years later and have grown it ever since.

Large dark-sulphur yellow flowers with a faint, rusty-red throat ring, over slightly marbled leaves. The yellow has a slightly more green tinge to it than the other tuolumnense garden hybrids. The leaves are smaller, in proportion to the larger flowers, making this appear less “leafy” than the older, related crosses such as Kondo and Pagoda.

Probably raised from a cross of Erythronium californicum White Beauty with Erythronium tuolumnense or possibly from a back-cross still involving these two parents, however as much of the seed from which the van Eeden hybrids were raised, was open-pollinated the parentage will always remain speculative and it may involve a tuolumnense hybrid rather than the pure species.

Excellent and easy in the garden.
